Attn Bloggers: Buy your Own Domain now!

Go Daddy $6.99.com sale 125x125

I don’t have a .com here at A Frugal Friend.

When I started out blogging, I knew very little. Boy, have I learned alot. By the time I really understood the value of having my own domain, someone had already snatched up the .com for A Frugal Friend. Not surprising, really.

BUY YOUR DOMAIN NOW: If you are a blogger, my suggestion to you, especially if you are earning a bit of money (or host reviews/giveaways)…..is buy your own domain NOW. Don’t wait until the .com is unavailable. You can actually use that domain while using free Blogger or WordPress, or you can just hold onto it until you might decide to self host, like I do.

I settled for a .net – it’s not bad. The search engines obviously have me ranked higher than the .com that is out there. But .com is the most recognizeable.

I used GoDaddy to buy my domain…….they’ll tell you what’s available to purchase. It’s super easy and right now there is a is a SALE.

Domain Sale! $7.49*.com at GoDaddy.com

Good Luck….I hope the domain you want is available!

Tell me about it! I came up with what I thought was a clever and UNIQUE blog name (Cents & Centsibility) and was so sad to discover that it was already in use. (I searched the Internet, not just for domains, because I didn’t want to infringe on anyone else’s name in ANY way.) I spent a couple of hours trying out all sorts of things (Bargain Barn, Frugal Frog, etc. *ad nauseum*) and could not come up with something that was totally unused. I finally got a hit with The Friendly Frugalista. It didn’t take me long to snatch up the .com domain. I have another site too and I snatched up .com, .net, and .org for it. The competition is fierce and there’s also the issue with domains that mimic names and take people places they do NOT want to go. I’m trying to avoid that as much as possible. My sites are family friendly and I don’t want to take any chances. LOL!

I am so glad mine was available. I wondered if I can use this to renew my domain name.

pinqlady57….

When I had my first blog, I used Blogger (it was free) and my URL (aka web address) had the word “blogspot” in it.

Everybody wants a (dot) com
Examples:
amazon.com
sears.com
kohls.com

You have to purchase those……they are domains. I wasn’t able to buy a (dot) com, but I was able to buy a (dot) net…..and that’s what you do to visit my site afrugalfriend.net

It’s simpler, easier, and best of all, it’s yours to do with what you want.

I hope that explains a bit about what buying a domain is.

I agree. I think there’s just so much more you can do with your own domain.
