Sesame Street iPhone Apps – Love ‘em

by A Frugal Friend on March 28, 2010

My daughter had her first ear infection this past month. Oh, and Mommy didn’t even realize it….she didn’t tug at her ears or anything. I thought it was just a bad, bad cold. Bad, Bad Mommy. We had some rough nights in there when we were up at 3am crying. My saving grace……my iPhone!

Yes, my new iPhone. Thanks to Sesame Street, I had my first 2 iPhone apps to test out. Did you know that Sesame Street has iPhone apps? Oh, you must get them! Whether it’s in the doctor’s waiting room, on an airplane, or during “those” moments, the Sesame Street apps are invaluable. They were to us at 3am! They turned tears into laughter for one toddler and her Mommy!

Check them out:

The app lets iPhone and iPod touch users make their very own monster.  Yes, build your own monster!  You start off by choosing the basic monster shape, add eyes, nose, and mouth from many selections, and finish it off by adding accessories to the head (hat, horns, etc.).  Too much fun, and so simple for a toddler learning fine motor skills. If it stopped there, we would still be hooked, but it goes beyond just creating a personalized monster.  Elmo then plays with your monster, by dancing to “groovy” music and more.  Elmo can even take your monster’s picture and Elmo’s photos of the monster can go straight to a user’s iPhone or iPod touch photo album.

I’m hooked on this one myself…….yes, I admit that I “might” have played this without a toddler nearby. :-)

This was the first official Sesame Street app for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Here’s the scoop:

When Charlie, the cook, doesn’t come into the restaurant and the customer wants his lunch right away, Grover, our cute and lovable waiter, needs help! Join Grover in the kitchen to catch—and count—ingredients to make delicious and nutritious meals. All users have to do is tip the iPhone or iPod touch back and forth to move the tray. Grover tells you how many ingredients to catch, and then counts the items with you.

I can’t tell which one is my daughter’s favorite.  She enjoys the Grover app because she likes being  in total control of the iPhone by tipping it back and forth.  While at age 2 she needs some “help” catching the ingredients for a recipe, she absolutely gets a kick out of Grover (and his silly way of always spilling the dishes).

These 2 iPhone Apps have been so much fun that I can’t wait to see what Sesame Street Apps come out next!
