I don’t know about you, but I love shopping for toys. I love the delight (and imagination) I see in my daughter’s eyes when she receives a new toy. Most of all, when I shop, I do like to think of memories. The memories that my daughter will have of childhood….memories that will be sparked when she sees the toy 30 years from now. I know from experience, my mom kept so many of my childhood toys in her attic. My daughter now plays with many of those special toys now….and she enjoys them just as much. That’s what her Grandma wanted.

Thanks to Gummy Lump, I recently received the Melissa & Doug Ice Cream Parlor Set. With summer nearing and the temperature warming up, I’d been admiring this and many other play food sets!
The Melissa & Doug Ice Cream Parlor Set includes:

2 Magnetic Ice Cream Scoops
Fun Old Fashioned “Freezer” case for storage
Anyone who has visited our house knows that we are huge (I mean HUGE) Melissa & Doug fans. I hadn’t known of them before becoming a Mommy, but with some early gifts we received, I was quickly sold on the toys. High quality, durable, and timeless! Some of our personal favorites we enjoy are the Abby & Emma Magnetic Wooden Dress up dolls, Pizza Party Play Food, and the Slice and Bake Cookies.
As a parent, I love that these toys promote creativity and imagination. Each Melissa & Doug toy that we’ve received has come with Suggestions for Play….creative ways to use the toys that as parents we can utilize. They always seem to be a permanent fixture……the suggestions are not on a sheet of paper that can easily get lost, but in the case of the Ice Cream Parlor set, they are printed into the bottom of the freezer box. Love that!
On a warm, sunny day I decided to open up the Melissa & Doug Ice Cream Parlor Set and bring it outdoors. It couldn’t have been more fun. My daughter quickly set up her own “Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor” without any ideas from me. She sat down at her table and started asking, “What can I get for you today, Sir?”. Other than the fact that I’m not a Sir (we’ll work on that later), it was absolutely adorable.
The scoops are magnetic……THANK YOU Melissa & Doug! They know toddlers! The scoops stack on top of each other with the help of magnets. Now, they can fall of course (with some toddler help), but I can assure you that the plastic is quite durable, even after falling on the cement patio floor! Can’t tell…..the scoop looks good as new. The wooden cones look so real (as do the scoops) that I really do crave Ice Cream every time we play. With a 2 1/2 year old, the only difficulty we’ve had is actually using the scoop……but that will come with age. It works like a real scoop, and it’s magnetic too. You press the lever to release the scoop. She just needs a bit more practice.

Melissa and Doug toys are my favorite. They are fun and educational but also they are durable and my boys cannot destroy them. My favorite is the cupcake decorator. I have not seen the ice cream one COOL!! When my dad says to us lets go for a drive it means we are going for ice cream . With this toy we can go for a drive alot!!

Wow that is so adorable! I went to their site because I’d never heard of them before today. They do have a lot of cute items. I also like the cookie set that would be too cool! But, I love this ice cream set! I know it’s supposed to be for kids but I’d keep it for myself! I love scoops for one thing & the colors & ice cream is one of my favorite things in life even though now that I’m diabetic I have to eat frozen yogurt it will still look great in a set like this! Stir Fry Slicing Play Food Set. We go out to eat at the Japanese resturants often and my 4 yr old loves to pretent to cook like the chefs they have there. When I saw theses online one day I HAD to buy it!! Now we sit at the coffee table and he cooks us our dinner like at the japanese resturant!!
