Congratulations to:

Many of us have certain sentimental things we do because of a child. While I was pregnant, my husband and I made a few lists. Having just lost my mom, it was really important for me to put in writing 10 things I wanted my daughter to learn in life. We made a few other random/funny lists too….and one day (hopefully soon), I’ll scrapbook those things.
I’m certainly not the only one who gets a bit sentimental when children are born. In fact, if you haven’t already heard of Heroes for My Son, you should. This book has already made it to the New York Times Best Seller list. The author, Brad Meltzer, was inspired by his first son, born eight years ago. He remembers thinking “What kind of man did I want my son to be?” Did you have moments like that? I know I did. He took those thoughts and began creating a list of heroes, people whom he admired for their virtues and talents….and he did it for his son.
That list of heroes has now made it’s way into this magnificent book, one that while originally made for his child, can inspire us as well. This beautiful gift book honors men and women from all walks of life….from family members like his mom and grandfather, to those quite famous like Dr. Seuss, Lou Gehrig, and Eleanor Roosevelt. The author quickly paints a picture of why each person is a hero, and combines with a photo and quote from the person. Some I knew quite well and would likely add to “my list of heroes” like Mother Teresa, while others, like Officer Frank Shankwitz, I really hadn’t heard of and quickly settled in to learn more. Do you know? He was the cofounder of the Make A Wish Foundation.
A book with one beautiful purpose, to inspire. It does.

In truth, my mom is my hero. I am so glad that my daughter has daily contact with her. She keeps going well after retirement, and her values are exactly what my daughter needs.

My youngest daughter is actually a hero to me. She’s 22 now but when she was seven and a half she was diagnosed with Bone Cancer-Osteo Sarcoma of the right shoulder. We spent eleven and a half months while she was an in patient in the hospital to receive 5 chemos a day-5 days a week. Never once did she ever not have a smile on her face when she wasn’t sick. Unbelievably she accepted everything, even the 2 years more of treatment afterwards. She’s got the greatest sense of humor and takes everything in stride. Don’t get me wrong, she had some really terrible days but overall she taught me what true strength was. After they replaced her shoulder with a Titanium implant and she had to wear a horrible brace she still just kept moving on while mom was falling apart in secret. I thank God everyday for my daughter’s life and well being.

I would have to say my dad and my husband. I hope my little boys grow up to be parts of each of them
I was trying to think of somebody famous to make a comment on but there was one person who just kept popping out at me from the back of my mind. Our former minister had a stroke at 35 years of age and had faith and belief in God and wouldn’t let it take over his life. He still has some problems from it but he is an inspiration to us all.

I would say my DAD is my hero. He has always been such a provider for our family. He is patient. He is kind. He isn’t boastful. He loves his family and would do whatever he can for them. I married someone just like him, so I suppose my husband is my hero, too!

I too was trying my hardest to think of someone famous, someone who has greatly influenced my life that has been in the media light but to be honest, the greastest hero in my book that I would want my own kids to share the same vitures/outlook on life would be from my own Mom & Dad. They taught my sister and myself everything we needed to know about life, how to live it to the fullest yet striving to be the best for our family. I couldn’t ask for more for my own kids to learn this! Thanks for a great giveaway

The hero that I would most like my children to emulate is Jesus! If they can learn to walk as He walked, then they have accomplished what’s most important in life!
