We’ve spent a lot of time lately talking to our “almost 3″ year old about safety. She’s no longer in a stroller while in a parking lot, she’s riding a tricycle, and it’s pool season………all opportunities to talk about this important topic. I’m always trying to find ways to reinforce our safety lessons, and tonight we just finished watching a great resource for kids and parents….Let’s Grow: Safety First.

This is the 2nd DVD in the new Let’s Grow series from Sprout and Hit Entertainment. Each DVD in the series focuses on areas just perfect for preschoolers…..safety, cleaning up, manners, friendship and more. If you missed my review of the first DVD, Lend a Helping Hand, you’ll want to check it out.

Each DVD features a favorite friend of ours, Chica, along with one of Sprout’s hosts. They talk to the kids a bit about the subject and introduce episodes from some other friends, Barney, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, Thomas & Friends, and Kipper. Each DVD also features a small Parent’s Resource Guide with helpful tips and suggestions.

I love this DVD! I watched it alongside my daughter and would ask her questions as we went along. There were so many safety issues covered…..wearing seatbelts, crossing the street, wearing helmets, pool and bathtub safety, smoke/fire alarms, kitchen safety and more. It was impressive and it’s always nice to have “Barney” reinforce that it’s important to not touch a real stove. If you have a preschooler or toddler and are starting to talk about safety, you just might want to add Let’s Grow: Safety First to your collection…..I’m glad it’s in ours.

I think I may harp a little too much on her about safety, as she will say “Be careful…don’t fall…watch out…etc” while role playing with her dolls. Would be nice to have someone else telling her about safety.
