My daughter just turned 3, and while I’m sad that time is seemingly flying by too fast, I’m always so excited about the new things we can do together. Playing games is one of them! Anyone who knows my family knows we LOVE to play games…..in fact, a little known secret is that “sparks” really first flew for my hubby and I over a game (and we are competitive)!! So, it’s about time that my daughter started playing too.
I spotted the most adorable “Lunchbox” games at a local store one day. These card games for children actually came in a very small lunchbox with handle and all…….packaging and storage (cute)! I knew that one day, when my daughter got older, I’d have to try one out…..and thanks to Fundex Games, we were able to do just that (and more).
Fundex Games sent us five (5) of these Lunchbox Games to review and it really was hard to choose between them all to pick the first game to play for our family game night. We were sent:
- Cookin’ Cookies
- Peanut Butter and Jelly Game
- The Storybook Game
- Yo Gabba Gabba! Party in My Tummy
- Monster Mashup
**Looks like there is a brand new Lunchbox game too, Jelly Bean Jumble (this wasn’t part of my review)
After much deliberation, we choose Cookin’ Cookies – and all three of us settled in for a game that had us giggling!
While aimed at children ages 4 and up, our 3 year old easily picked it up. The premise is simple: each person gets their own “Recipe Card” and must collect all the “ingredients’ to make the batch of cookies, without getting a “Rotten Egg”. If you get a “Rotten Egg” card, you must throw all the ingredients collected back into the pile. The first person to collect all their ingredients wins. Players’ recipe cards might be the same or different…. everything from Peanut Butter Cookies to Chocolate Chip Cookies, but they all have 5 ingredients.
While everyone is supposed to play at the same time, we opted to take turns to better teach our daughter. (NOTE: how to take turns and she also helped us gather our own ingredients). You also can use spoons to pick up the cards, but to make it easier we just picked them up with our fingers.
Here’s the funny part. By watching her Daddy, she quickly figured out she didn’t want that “Rotten Egg”. When she picked one up out of the pile, she immediately threw it down like it was contagious or something and tried to hide that she got it. It was hysterical!!! She didn’t quite understand why we were giggling, but oh my, it was funny! Oh, I wish I had video to share!
I love this game! It’s educational and teaches my daughter how to collect & match cards and also how to be patient and take turns. And… those silly “Rotten Eggs” are just too funny (look at them)!
I could go on and on about each game……they are so perfect for preschoolers! Peanut Butter and Jelly Game has everyone trying to build sandwiches with peanut butter cards, jelly cards, and bread cards, but watch out for the fly and all the ants! The Storybook Game
has everyone using cards to build a story and works on children’s memory. Monster Mashup
has everyone collecting enough body parts to build a monster and Yo Gabba Gabba! Party in My Tummy
is just plain fun – and we always end up singing that silly song from the show!
Whether you have a preschooler just learning how to play games, or a child in elementary school, these Lunchbox Games are fun, educational, and fun for the whole family (really, lots of giggling). With the Lunchbox case, it’s easy for travel too.
GIVEAWAY (5 winners):
Five winners will each receive one Lunchbox Game

Cookin’ Cookies was my daughter’s favorite game at 3 years-old! We also did not just smack the table all at once randomly. We would count “one, two, three Cookin’ Cookies!!” and then all smack the table. Preschoolers hate waiting for their turn and this method gives them time to figure out if they have a match.
I love the lunchbox design b/c it is small to store and portable. I have never seen the Monster Mash-up and would love to have it!
I think that monster mashup sounds like a lot of fun!
I think the Peanut Butter and Jelly Game sounds like one i would love to have. The kids would love these.
