It’s October and my favorite time of year….FALL! I always make sure to have a basket full of Halloween and Fall themed books in our living room……and we’ve added a few brand new ones this season. Here are some of the brand new releases we’ve been reading. I must add that it’s extra fun this year as my 5 yr old is actually “reading” some of the words to me!
It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse! is the latest in the popular “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” book series, by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. This particular one comes in board book form (very sturdy), and features one of our favorite characters, Mouse! He’s just so cute!
There’s no mention of Halloween in this book, just fall fun in decorating pumpkins………and Mouse is busy giving each one a different face based on emotions. Happy, silly, sad, etc. While you might be tempted to think this is just for the itty bitty kids, think again. This book is great for early readers with its’ simple phrases and sentences.

Just Say Boo!is an sweet book, great for helping young children get a handle of all the things that might “scare” them during Halloween. From spider decorations that pop out of nowhere and lit up jack-o-lanterns to the sometimes spooky sounds of the night, kids will be taught to just say “BOO” right back.
I know personally we’ve seen some terribly scary Halloween decorations (even to mommy), without trying. Just by visiting the local craft store, we’ve turned the corner to spy very spooky things…….and this book just might help little ones prepare for the inevitable.

If there’s one new Halloween book that my 5 yr old has fallen in love with, it’s Mia: Time to Trick or Treat!. One reason, the characters you just can’t help but love….Mia the cat and her friends Anna the Hippo and Ruby the Giraffe. Another reason…..STICKERS! Yes, the book comes complete with stickers that you can use on the very last page to dress up Mia and her friends just like in the storybook.
It’s Halloween, and all three girls are getting ready to go trick-or-treating. There’s a problem though. While they all want to be matching ballerinas, they can’t agree on the color of their costumes….until the very last minute when Mia comes up with a solution to use all their favorite colors together!
Super sweet and extra fun!

Bedtime for Boo follows Boo the ghost, the littlest ghost in the family. While most of the older ghosts are out A-haunting, Boo’s mama helps him fall asleep when he’s just not tired. (Oh, I can relate to this one).
Mama Ghost tells little Boo to listen and hear the sounds of the house…….from flapping bats and ticking clocks to ghosts whooshing and skeletons rattling. Guess what……after listening to all the sounds, someone falls asleep.
While not directly about Halloween, in Ready for Pumpkins the class guinea pig (Hercules) sneaks some pumpkin seeds from the kids making a jack-o-lantern. He wants to grow plants too, just like the 1st graders in his class.
Hercules learns about planting, but also how patient he must be…………and patient……..and patient. One day, there’s a pumpkin patch! A cute tale!
