“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”
Today is a big day in our house. We are expecting a phone call shortly to find out who “our” First Grade teacher will be. Oh, the excitement is building.
“Meet the Teacher” night will follow, where we’ll all be introduced and we will bring two bags full of school supplies. I still have a couple items left of my list……..I can’t seem to find pocket folders with brads. So much to do!
As we’ve been back to school shopping though, I’ve been reminded of those families who have a hard time affording school supplies. Basic things like crayons and glue. Things that you and I might not think twice about. I saw first hand last year how this affects children. My daughter would break off crayons in half to share with a student who had no crayons. When she told me, we had the teacher “sneak” new crayons in his box.
At this age (First Grade), school is exciting and something to look forward to (for most, I hope), but did you know that each year, 1 Million students fail to graduate high school.
Let me repeat that.
One Million Students Fail to Graduate High School Each Year!
I’m shocked at that figure. It tells me that we have a long way to go as a nation, as a community in supporting today’s kids.
This is why Boys & Girls Clubs of America is so vital.
Right now, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and long-time partner Disney, have launched an online school supply drive.
You can help!
- Step 1: Play a Pop-Quiz Style Game at GreatFutures.org
- Step 2: For every 5 correct answers, a donation of school supplies will be made to local BGCA Clubs
It’s a simple thing that we all can do to help students in need. Nothing out of pocket for you, just a few minutes of your time.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of America website, GreatFutures.org, also offers so much for parents, including educational content for parents.
Be sure to visit and play to donate the school supplies. Share this with others so they too can participate!
